Big Island Hawaii Drive up 137 (Red Road)
137 and 130 are Hwy's that go up the coast from the Kalapana flow area up through Kapoho, a town covered by lava. It is Lush, overgrown, and dwarfs you in the feeling of being very small in a very large tropical rainforest. Single lane with awesome views in some areas it was well worth the slow drive. Sometimes the lanes were so narrow that you must pull to the side to share the road with oncoming cars. All done in the spirit of aloha.
Of course my morbid side took over and I became interested in some random gravestones, big grave markers, about 5 of them lined up. Stupid me didn't take a picture and now I cant sift any info out of the internet about them. Anyone?
We were on the way to catch our flight so we were not able to check out some of the cool beaches with hot springs and tide-pools.
Next time!
The rough ocean was electric blue and the contrast of it pounding against the mostly black, lava, rocky shoreline was amazing. I didn't doctor any color in any photos (with the exception of some sepia hots of Joni's, aren't they great!?
